Spectacle Production

Today marks my first week working remotely with Spectacle Productions. Although working from home is not what i expected everyone has made me feel extremely welcome via meetings on zooms and emails. As a production and distribution intern i was initially unsure how working online would work. It has been interesting to see the amount of work that goes into things other than production work. Spectacle have an endless to do list tasks and improvements within distributions.

From the get go i was assigned a task to research background knowledge on Vimeo and from a first glance improvements i would undertake to their page. This was followed up with an in depth meeting of going backstage to their account and understanding what they do. Within this meeting we addressed that there was a definite improvement needed within the artwork within the Call me Josse. My main task i set out to design a few prototypes. The cons of the poster before was it didn’t depict the Belgium flag.

This poster was on their Vimeo page.

This posters was in their back office.

To make this poster, i had to understand the company’s fonts and colours to keep continuity and representation of the brand. I researched into the film and looked at their achieve photos and incorporated graphics. Here are a few of the prototypes designed.

Alongside that, we were preparing for the intensive course they run to fund their production company. This is where i learnt about some key marketing softwares including campaign monitor to form some databases.

From just a week I already feel a lot more confident in organisation and how I can expand my knowledge. Here are share tips on other interns to succeed remotely:

1) Create a morning to do list and prioritise task – I understood quickly its important to plan my day using objectives and putting urgent tasks at the top of my agenda.  For instance, my background tasks were creating artwork distribution and research, but I knew there was general admin work which was necessary for the course next week.

2) Be proactive – As well as having the assigned task look out at the company to do list tasks. I’ve learnt the realities of day to day practice can involve long meetings and its important to contribute in order to solve problems.

3) Ask questions – I learnt a lot through asking questions, without asking these I wouldn’t of added new skills to my skillset.

I look forward to learning more as the week’s progress in my short 15 week placement.
