Hello guys, In today’s world theres a lot of inspiration off other peoples work and remixing these to make original content. I am in awe over inspirations of photography and within post to edit them.
Selective colour photography is a under-rated inspiration in the photography community due to the technique being very controversial. This is due to it often being executed with poor taste. However, i believe it creates striking photos that makes something more compelling and thrilling to the eye. If you don’t know already selective colour photography is when a accent colour of the artist choice stands out against a monochrome image. This techniques is done through manipulating the image in editing softwares.
These are my favourite photos that use this technique. I personally believe this look more dynamic, interesting and they make something stand out.

I loved this piece – this was the most advanced i felt as it sort of gives a futuristic undertone.

The sign of the London underground service stands out in real time colours. This captures what the heart of London is on connecting people together.

The bold statement FREE in colour which injects life into the picture implying everyone can make life out to how they want in a world where theres a lot of injustice, unknowing, conflict.
Here me experimenting using this technique. These photos were taken at the Anti-Brexit March 2019 which i attended. I believe this technique was used good within the protest as during the march i mostly focused all day on reading all these posters and banners. I believe the thoughts and opinions of the people should stand out – my making something stand out it will draw more attentions to reading the signs.

i used this techniques here as it captures the colour pink which is often symbolised as a rose tinted view of the world. Within this photo i believe it recognises the fact everybody has a say – even people less knowledgable.

I used this technique here as the monochrome black and white is quite a depressing and lonely setting. It emphasises the banner that they would feel lonely without the EU. The colour white on the banner emphasis purity that there will be light if we don’t leave the EU. The blue colour emphases the fact that the EU creates stability, trust, loyalty.

As you can see we this photo it didn’t turn out as i would of liked (i’m still experimenting) but i still wanted to share it to show that art is al about experimenting. I like the fact that all the people in black and white though and all the signs are in diffrent colours which emphasises the need for change.
The question is NO i do not feel like this is plagiarism – I’ve used this techniques and adapted into different ways creating new connotations.
Have you tried selective colour technique with good results? Go try it out yourself!
Also comment down below what you thought about my interpretations of the photos and how i adapted this technique in my photos. I will take on critiques and other peoples view as i would love to get better and see what other people think 🙂
Bye for now,
Lizzie X
